Don’t Let the Fun of Summer Create Setbacks in Math
Summer Workshops
For years, I have been working with families privately or in small groups over the summer. I have found that, while private tutoring is highly effective and a joy for me as I watch students progress, it is not always necessary for many of the students who come my way, nor is it affordable for all.
Most students who have been successful during the previous year simply come to summer tutoring for a review or in order to keep the prior year’s concepts fresh in their mind. This is so important!
My hope is that, Summer Workshops will offer a solution that will allow most students to review, solidify, or get ahead in a more accessible manner.

Back to the Basics
Building a strong foundation is key to succeeding in Math. Some students struggle to grasp the basics that are often quickly reviewed at the beginning of the year. Without these skills, students struggle to move on to more difficult concepts.

Kristi has been able to find the root of my child's math frustration - some key math concepts that she never mastered - and rebuild her math trajectory so she is not just on-track, but ahead.

Solidify
Before beginning middle school, students are meant to have a firm grasp on computing whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. While these are reviewed in later grades, the review is often done quickly with an assumption that these skills were mastered in earlier years.

My kids absolutely love Kristi. My son had private tutoring with her last summer and it was the best decision I did for him! He started the year so well! We are very thankful to Kristi!

Just as the lessons taught in 6th and 7th grade presuppose a mastery of the more elemental skills, pre-Algebra and Algebra presuppose mastery in the areas below. These are often skills that students at first glance say, “Oh I know those, they are pretty easy.” However, when given problems to do on their own, they quickly find they needed more practice to attain mastery.

Both of my children benefitted from working on a variety of subjects with Kristi. Their grades, and confidence greatly improved under her instruction. She was a valuable part of my children’s education.

As students progress into pre-Algebra, they begin to learn a whole new language, the language of Algebra. New words and concepts become the norm. This can be a bit overwhelming for students at times and, while they master some areas, others are still proven to be weak when tested against the requirements of Algebra.

Algebra?
As students unlock the magic of Algebra, many will say it is their favorite course in Math. Learning linear and quadratic equations can be exciting for some… and painful for others. This course is a great way for students to become familiar with the concepts they will learn in Algebra, while not being overwhelmed with a new school or new set of classes on which they must focus.
